GOLD AND STEEL
Even though this creation is linked to an event which brings together classic sports cars for a car race, the Geneva-based brand hasn’t forgotten to ensure its style captures the spirit of the times.
Since 1988, Chopard has been the loyal partner of the vintage car rally which takes competitors on the routes that weave their way between Brescia in Lombardy and Rome. Each race is an opportunity for the manufacture to unveil commemorative timepieces for the annual edition. In 2018, the limited series stood out dressed in monochrome gray. The following year, the dial took on black or blue. For this 2020 vintage, the Mille Miglia GTS Azzurro Power Control opts for a two-tone look. This version flaunts a brushed blue dial that’s just as intense as a summertime sky. The hour chapter featuring an XL-sized 12 and 6 as well as large indexes, all topped with white luminescent coating, takes centerstage perfectly and offers optimal readability. At 3 o’clock, we discover the date aperture combined with a red arrow, the race’s symbol. To boost this composition with a warm gleam, rose gold is used skillfully. At 9 o’clock, a fine hand crafted in this material informs the watch wearer of the remaining energy available. The bezel which is also fashioned in this alloy is enhanced by a lacquered azure aluminum insert. The crown designed in the precious metal is used for setting the time and winding.
The COSC chronometer-certified 01.08-C caliber vibrates softly inside the 43 mm-diameter steel case. This self-winding movement assembled with some 251 components delivers the timepiece a power reserve of 60 hours.
The 500-piece limited, numbered edition is worn on a perforated blue calfskin strap boasting rubber lining which conjures up 1960s-style Dunlop tires.
