The first successful collaboration between the Jura-based brand and the famous architect and watchmaker, this regulator with a unique face is available in two limited-edition variants, one in black and the other in silver.
What is a regulator? It is a “precision clock used by watchmakers for verifying the rate of watches” (Illustrated Professional Dictionary of Horology), a clock used as a key reference at the end of the 17th century. Over time, the regulator has become rare, but today, it has not only been restored but also reinterpreted by Louis Erard through a collaboration with the architect and watchmaker Alain Silberstein. The designer is known in the watchmaking field for his unique, fun and visual signature, inspired by Bauhaus movement and based on a play of lines, shape and colors. The new Alain Silberstein Excellence Regulator models are proof of this, although this is the first time that the artist has worked on this type of product.
This watch is offered in two versions, each available in 178 pieces. One has a dark matte black face and the other comes in matte silver. Alain Silberstein’s characteristic color coding and combination of geometric shapes are of course present. As required by a regulator, the arrow-shaped minute hand lacquered in bright yellow or blue is located in the center of the dial and points to long rounded index markers. At 12 o’clock, a white secondary dial shows the hours displayed by a triangular hand. The seconds are shown by a serpentine hand at 6 o’clock and the power reserve is indicated at 9 o’clock.
These functions are powered by a manual-winding movement, the ETA Peseux 7001 caliber, which vibrates at 3 Hz and offers a power reserve of 42 hours. This motor, equipped with a Louis Erard RE9 complication, is housed in a polished steel or black PVD-treated case depending on the version chosen.
