Golden brown, texture like sun… The first words of The Stranglers’ well-known song suit the new version of the chronograph unveiled during Watches & Wonders Geneva, reference 5968R-001, to a T. Basically, this model addresses wearers’ wishes for watches with sporty personalities and elegant style amazingly well. For this timepiece, Patek Philippe combines its iconic 42.2 mm-diameter case, waterproof to depths of 120 meters and crafted in rose gold this time round, with a gradient-toned brown dial, subtly veering to black around the edges. The ensemble delivers exquisite visual harmony. Time displays in this well-spaced scenography are set off with white luminescent paint meaning they’re ever-so easy to read under any conditions of light.
Along with the hour and minute hands, the watch boasts a 60-minute counter at 6 o’clock and a date at 3 o’clock. All the data is accurately driven by the CH 28-250 C caliber equipped with a column-wheel drive and a vertical disc clutch. This selfwinding movement (around 50 hours of power reserve) can start and stop short-cycle time measurements swiftly, anytime, anywhere thanks to its flyback function. What’s more, the sapphire-crystal caseback invites to admire the finishing of its workings and to discover its 21-karat gold oscillating weight. Like its colored predecessors, dominated by black, blue or green, the Aquanaut 5968R-001 comes complete with a matching composite material strap attached by a folding clasp.
