LONG LIVE THE RHINOCEROS!
Well accustomed to sometimes surprising collaborations, the Nyon-based watchmaker has this time chosen to support the conservation of the rhinoceros, a magnificent wild animal facing the threat of extinction, by joining forces with SORAI to create a new limited-edition piece.
Unless you are from another galaxy, we all know that our dear and beautiful planet is in a perilous state. Nature is finding it harder and harder to bear the burden of what we have subjected it to for more than a century, and every year, several species disappear from our planet. One such endangered species is the rhinoceros, this majestic mammal with one or two horns on its nose is today facing extinction after having fallen victim to poaching. To try to put a stop to this culling, Hublot has joined forces with SORAI (Save Our Rhino Africa India), a company founded by the former cricket player Kevin Pietersen, resulting in the 100-piece Big Bang Unico Sorai limited edition. SORAI’s mission is to strive for the protection and conservation of rhinoceroses by supporting associations such as Care for Wild, an orphanage which rescues babies, and South African National Parks which manages the surveillance of around 20 wildlife parks.
This Big Bang Unico Sorai comprises a 45 mm case in beige ceramic, a color that is omnipresent in the African bush. Its transparent case back, decorated with a “SORAI” decal, reveals the workings of the HUB1242 caliber which powers the time functionalities, the date, and the chronograph on the dial and provides a power reserve of 72 hours. Also in beige – the hands, index markers and counter are as well – the openwork dial displays the geometric stylized outline of a rhinoceros on the small seconds dial at 9 o’clock. The watch comes with two straps: one in black rubber with a camouflage pattern or beige velcro.
Part of the proceeds of this exclusive Hublot will be donated to saving this magnificent mammal.
