THE ART OF FINISHINGS
At the Watches & Wonders Geneva trade show, the manufacturer presented this new variation without markers in its iconic collection of watches with a pure aesthetic.
During the exhibition held in London from the 19th to the 25th of May, during which Patrick Getreide’s impressive collection was on display, Thierry Stern, CEO of Patek Philippe, emphasized the importance of design in explaining the businessman’s interest in the manufacturer’s timepieces. “The dial is the image of the watch. The first thing you see in a watch. It is its color, its beauty. Then you notice the case, and finally, you discover the movement.” Each creation rightly benefits from a particular attention to the staging of the time-related information. The new Calatrava 5226G is no exception to the rule. Here, the textured anthracite grey graduated surface hosts Arabic numerals and hands coated with beige luminescent material. The date window at 3 o’clock perfectly aligns with the hour circle. The decisively vintage design offers exemplary legibility.
The case is made of white gold, 40mm in diameter, with a “Clous de Paris” guilloche pattern on the 8.53mm case middle. This refined case houses the 26-330 S C caliber equipped with a stop seconds system to ensure precise time settings. The self-winding movement delivers 45 hours of power reserve. This mechanism stands out thanks to its yellow gold oscillating weight that can be admired through the sapphire back. To enhance the retro look of the Calatrava 5226G, it comes with two wristbands, one in matching nubuck calf leather, the other in black calf.
