A DELIGHTFUL GESTURE
To celebrate the birthday of TAG Heuer’s former CEO, the brand’s watchmakers prepared a surprise by revamping his favorite timepiece which overflows with memories.
Long before the arrival of the legendary Monaco, Jack Heuer, great-grandson of the founder of the namesake brand, wished to share his passion for motor racing. In 1963, his hankering came true with the introduction of the Carrera, a watch which embraced a sporty spirit yet was elegant. For Jack Heuer’s 88th birthday, celebrated on November 19 this year, the brand unveiled a 188-piece limited edition which inspired by one of his best-loved gold models created back in the 1970s. In a nutshell, the Carrera Chronograph Gold Jack Heuer’s Birthday reproduces the sleek, highly-contrasted design dial-side. Here, two bi-compax-positioned sunray-brushed black subdials, a 12-hour one and a 30-minute one, stand out perfectly from an immaculate backdrop. The gilded hands and indexes are amazingly-easy to read in this minimalist composition. A discreet small seconds and a date, both set at 6 o’clock, complete the time data.
The 42 mm-diameter case of this edition is crafted in rose gold. This stylish case hosts the 168 components of the high-performing Heuer 02. This self-winding movement delivers a generous power reserve of 80 hours.
To ensure this reference is set apart from the other pieces of the collection, a duo of horizontally-set, stylized figure 8s allude to Jack Heuer’s age and, at the same time, symbolize the infinite bond which links the man to the watchmaking firm. We can also discover his motto “Time never stops, why should we?” engraved on the oscillating weight, visible through the sapphire-crystal caseback.
