AN UPDATED CLASSIC
The iconic Carrera’s design, along with the up-to-the-minute mechanical performances of the Heuer 02 caliber, breathes life into a variation inspired by a 1960s version.
To celebrate the 160th anniversary of the Heuer brand, which became TAG Heuer in 1985, the firm marked 2020 with a host of limited series inspired by outstanding timepieces which had highlighted its history. The latest to date, the Carrera Sport Chronograph 160 Years, each produced in 1,860 pieces, are reinterpretations of a model from 1965 boasting a sporty look, the “Dato 45”, which stood out at the time in particular through its date set at 12 o’clock. This feature is dressed in red to ensure it’s center staged. This color which we also discover on the central direct-drive and in the counter itself emphasizes the watch’s dynamic style.
Two dial versions are available, one in white, the other in blue, enhanced with a brushed finish. The Super-LumiNova®-coated hour and minute hands hovering above tick over an ever-so accurate minute tracker, something Jack Heuer had wished for when the Carrera watch was created. Moreover, each version boasts a black or blue ceramic bezel, decorated with a tachymetric scale.
The time data of these pieces is driven by the highly-efficient Heuer 02 caliber. This selfwinding movement which delivers a comfortable power reserve of 80 hours nestles in a 44 mm-diameter steel case, waterproof to depths of 100 meters. The screwed sapphire-crystal caseback invites to admire the openworked oscillating weight and is engraved with an inscription bearing the anniversary date. The Carrera Sport Chronograph 160 Years are worn on a steel bracelet made up of H-shaped links attached by a folding clasp.
