ALL-TERRAIN
Throughout the competition, the manufacturer involved in organizing this electric championship released new limited editions. The most recent one transports us to Chile where the 4th event took place.
More than just a regular race, the Extreme E provides an opportunity to highlight aspects of climate change at each stage. On September 24 and 25, 2022, the racers met in Chile near a mining operation employing sustainable and inclusive extraction methods. On the occasion of this event, Zenith, as the official timekeeper and involved in the competition’s organization, presented the Defy Extreme X E Copper X Prix produced in only 20 examples. As with the previous series, the chronograph’s design is inspired by the race’s natural environment. For example, the 45mm diameter case in bead-blasted carbon and titanium is combined with copper tones on the counters used to measure time, the small seconds, and the power reserve indicator. The Velcro® wristband is crafted from recycled Continental E-Grip tires featuring the same color scheme as the extracted minerals.
This ultra-sporty timepiece displays the same information layout as the models in the collection. All are powered with precision by the El Primero 9004 caliber, a contemporary development of the emblematic 1969 automatic movement. The latter stands out for its two escapements, one with a frequency of 36,000 vibrations per hour for the watch, the other beating at 50 Hz for the chronograph displaying splits of 1/100th of a second. Pervasive Super-LumiNova® coating on the hands and markers provides excellent readability of the measured results. High performance technology and optimized ergonomics combine to ensure ultimate precision.
