THE SPIRIT OF E-COMPETITION
Drawing on its involvement in this automobile championship focused on environmental protection, the manufacturer is introducing a limited-edition model to mark the first stage.
The Desert X Prix in Neom, Saudi Arabia, kicks off the second season of Extreme E. This rally challenge brings together adventure-oriented electric 4x4s driven by mixed teams. Founding partner of this unique event, Zenith unveils for the occasion the Defy Extreme E “Desert X Prix” watch. Its 45mm diameter carbon and titanium case, entirely in shades of grey, protects an openworked dial on which the hour and minute hands, the chronograph counters, a small seconds hand, and a power reserve indicator located at 12 o’clock are positioned. This symmetrical composition is enhanced by a vibrant yellow hue on the markers and on the 1/100th of a second gauge scale reminiscent of the dune landscapes through which the competition races. This sunlight color also graces the Velcro wristband made from pieces of recycled Continental tires.
As with all Defy Extreme models, the El Primero caliber orchestrates the data. This self-winding movement produces at a minimum 50 hours of power reserve. A contemporary adaptation of the legendary 1969 mechanism, it is notable for its two escapements. One with a frequency of 5Hz for the time information, the other one used to measure the time to 1/100th of a second beating at 360,000 vibrations per hour.
The Defy Extreme E “Desert X Prix” is a limited edition of only 20 timepieces. Should you not be an owner of this timepiece, a specific series will be unveiled at each race.
