CELEBRATING THE LEGEND
Once again La Chaux-de-Fonds’ watchmaker pays a vibrant tribute to Magic Senna by creating two rather masculine sporty chronographs whose design is inspired by motor racing.
Every year now, as a partner of the Senna Foundation, TAG Heuer fixes us a date with History. A legend’s history, of course, a legend who was the first-ever ambassador of the brand to associate his name with the Don’t crack under Pressure campaign back in 1991. For this 2020 vintage, two limited editions honor the Brazilian champion.
The Formula 1 Calibre 16 Automatic boasts a 44 mm-diameter case. On its sunray-brushed anthracite dial, snailed black counters are center staged on a vertical axis. The presence of Super-LumiNova® on the hands and indexes ensures excellent time-data readability under any conditions of light. This sporty composition is energized with touches of yellow on the date aperture, the bezel, the crown as well as the pusher set at 3 o’clock. This same shade also features on the leather strap, which stands out with an embossed S pattern, a tip of the hat to the racing driver.
The Formula 1 Chronograph Quartz is adorned with similar finery. But, this time round, the totalizers and small second take on a classical tri-compax format. The 43 mm-diameter steel case is topped with a sturdy ceramic bezel. Moreover, it is proposed with a bracelet to match, crafted in the same metal, comprising S-shaped links and attached by a folding clasp.
Both these models embrace a screwed caseback decorated with an engraving portraying an effigy of Ayrton Senna. And, both are delivered in a special presentation case.
