LAST SPECIMEN
As a grande finale to celebrate the 10th anniversary of a collection that is a must in the history of the young Geneva-based brand, this last opus is a unique piece destined to be auctioned soon and to support the fight for the preservation of rhinos.
The year 2011 marks the birth of the LM1, a timepiece different from the models previously unveiled by MB&F. This timepiece, all in relief and movement, launched a saga that ended in 2017, as the young Geneva-based brand had other creative projects in its drawers. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of this iconic collection in style, Max Büsser and his Friends have used one of the last LM1 prototypes to create a unique work of art: the LM1 Longhorn, which will be auctioned off on November 7, with a portion of the proceeds going to support Save the Rhino International, an NGO that works to protect and preserve rhinos and their habitat, and to fight poaching.
The term longhorn refers to a breed of cattle, but in general terms it refers to all animals with horns, and in watchmaking terminology, to the lugs on a watch that connect the case to the bracelet. On the LM1, the lugs have two positions for comfort.
Protected by a sapphire crystal dome, the two black-lacquered sub-dials with small blued hands seem to float above the rhodium-plated plate, whose sunburst pattern is reminiscent of an animal’s coat. Each displays a different and independent time zone that can be adjusted via the crowns at 4 and 8 o’clock.
The hand-wound engine, which delivers 45 hours of power reserve, is crafted by Jean-François Mojon and Kari Voutilainen, and housed in a 44mm steel case.
