In 2017, the armada that is Breguet’s Marine collection unveiled new adornments. An hour chapter comprising Roman numerals and luminescent markers encircled a never-seen-before design, fruit of delicate hand-engraved guilloché. In this scenescape evoking ocean waves, we discover the tri-compax-positioned counters of the Chronograph 5527. Two of them, a minute totalizer set at 3 o’clock and an hour one at 6 o’clock measure time. The central direct-drive boasting a counterpoise flaunting a design inspired by marine-world codes contributes to the timepiece’s high precision. The third, a small seconds, at 9 o’clock, lets the wearer know if the 582QA caliber is working correctly; a caliber which also drives a pair of gold Breguet-style hollow moon-tip hands which hover over the blue dial. This rather airy composition and choice of colors ensures excellent time data readability.
After titanium in 2018, it’s now white gold’s turn to reign supreme on the 42.3 mm-diameter case, waterproof to depths of 100 meters, of this 2020 vintage. This elegant case protects the selfwinding movement assembled using some 346 components and delivering a somewhat adequate power reserve of 48 hours. This mechanism can be admired through the sapphire-crystal caseback. A feast for the eyes when we discover an incredible oscillating mass styled like a ship’s rudder.
The Marine Chronograph 5527 is complemented by a bracelet fashioned in the same material as the case. Worth noting, Breguet also proposes this reference is rose gold.
