TECHNICAL TRANSPARENCY
On the occasion of the Monaco Grand Prix, of which the watch brand has been a partner for over a decade, it unveiled three new versions of its most famous square watch.
TAG Heuer has chosen to unveil not one, but three new references for the 2023 edition of the Monaco Grand Prix, the famous automobile competition born in 1929, 40 years before the creation of the eponymous watch, and of which the watch brand has been a partner for over a decade. This trio of Monaco Chronograph embodies the high points of the emblematic collection, borrowing the color chart specific to different eras, from the 1960s to the 1980s.
Visually, the architecture of the openworked dial, unashamedly displaying the workings of its mechanics, evokes a stylized star of the day: a wide ring on which the minute track rests and through which elongated hour-markers pass like sunbeams, flanked by two square counters (the minute totalizer at 3 o’clock and the hour totalizer at 9 o’clock). The colors chosen electrify this graphic setting, such as Le Mans Original Blue, Racing Red anthracite gray and intense black punctuated by turquoise touches and borrowed from the famous Dark Lord of 1974, while the date appears on a white background in a window at 6 o’clock. Under the beveled sapphire crystal, all chronograph function information is highlighted in vermilion, while the running hours and minutes are marked by two luminescent baton-type hands. On the motor side, the Heuer Calibre 02, housed in a titanium case 39mm in diameter and 14.7mm thick, drives all indications. When fully wound via its oscillating weight cut in the silhouette of a racing-car steering wheel, this movement delivers a substantial 80-hour power reserve.
