Unique in more ways than one.
Since 2005, Only Watch has been inviting watch brands to become involved in the research to help find a treatment for Duchenne muscular dystrophy through an auction of one-of-a-kind pieces. For the tenth edition of this charity event held in Monaco, Bulgari has swung into action with an exceptional watch, the Octo Finissimo Marble Tourbillon. In 2014, this timepiece, one of the manufacture’s iconic models, started its legendary eight “thinness” world record series. For this biennial date, the 40 mm-diameter and just 6 mm-thick black DLC titanium case is set off with a fine layer of between 0.4 and 0.5 mm of green marble, sourced in the Alps in the Aosta Valley. The bracelet links also take on this finish. With its adornments, this geometric-styled watch turns into a real carved sculpture ready to challenge time.
On the dial enhanced with this colored mineral, a pair of openworked hands hovers over an hour chapter made up of elongated markers. All these features are rose gold plated, delivering elegant visual harmony totally in tune with the stone’s marbling. The flying tourbillon at 6 o’clock of the BVL 268 caliber, assembled with 249 components, completes its gyrations in one minute. The use of a ball-bearing system and the elimination of the regulator-assembly enabled this hand-wound movement to achieve extreme slimness of just 1.95 mm. The barrel, secured and guided by 3 peripheral bearings, delivers a substantial power reserve of around 55 hours. This amazing feat, accomplished by the Roman firm’s watchmakers, blends art and craftsmanship brilliantly. This masterpiece beyond compare will definitely take your breath away.
