SOLAR REVOLUTION

Harness, transmit, and store solar energy effectively and, at the same time, ensure the look is timeless, is the feat the Le Locle brand has achieved.

Tissot draws from its expertise in powering watches using light, acquired since the dawning of the 2010s, to innovate with its Lightmaster Solar Technology by launching the T-Touch Expert Solar. How does it work? Unlike usual solutions where photovoltaic cells are placed under a dial, this technique means they can be positioned under the sapphire crystal. The microscopic honeycomb-shaped components absorb photons and transmit the energy harnessed optimally. The models in the PRC 100 Solar collection are the first of the Le Locle brand’s references to profit from this.

Energy is conveyed to a connector linked to a quartz caliber inside a steel case. Once fully charged, this accurate movement offers the watch 14 months’ autonomy. If ever energy runs out, the EOE, End of Energy system, lets the wearer know via the seconds hand which jumps every four seconds. It just takes ten minutes of exposure to natural or artificial light for the watch to top up its battery for another 24 hours. This Precise, Robust, and Classic PRC 100 Solar pursues its route with the dodecagonal bezel which featured on the original model unveiled in the mid 2000s. Three of the 39 mm-diameter variations boast a dark blue or silvered dial and are worn on a leather strap or metal bracelet. A duo dressed in black PVD places the accent on monochrome elegance. Somewhat more feminine versions, in 34 mm, complete the range.
