ARCHI-TEXTURE
Surprising seems to be second nature for the independent brand. This upgrade of its rectangular model invites to discover an entertaining scenography in which the gaze loves to meander.

Even though, in Richard Mille‘s catalog, a myriad of pieces boast a cushion-shaped case, some references stand out with their geometric style. The new RM 16-02 Automatic Extraflat is one of these. Here, the classic quadrilateral is turned into a daring architectural skeleton (36.00 x 9.50 x 45.64 mm), crafted in grade 5 titanium and, for the first time ever, in a brand new Terracotta-hued Quartz TPT®. No matter the option chosen, this timepiece whisks us off to another dimension where extraordinary state-of-the-artness and creativity reign.
Inside this casket, a surprising, ethereal structure serves as a dial. The baseplate, adorned with a finish obtained using gray electro-plasma, and the bridges treated with black PVD, conjure up a maze-like journey. Here, emptiness is full of innuendo. The existence of a golden border ensures wearers don’t lose their notion of time. The hour chapter numerals also play a role in this ingenious labyrinth. Caliber CRMA9 works its magic under this savvy composition. This selfwinding movement embodies all the assets intrinsic to Richard Mille’s beating heart. Variable-inertia balance wheel and fast-rotating barrel improve its performance. These two features optimize the watch’s accuracy and reliability. What’s more, the caliber also makes its mark with its efficient energy distribution over the course of the 50 or so hours that the power reserve lasts. The openworked oscillating weight, visible via the sapphire-crystal caseback also enhances the model’s overall appeal. Here, every single detail is part of perfection.
