TIME, SPORT AND EMOTIONS
Before the kick-off of the Beijing Olympics, the watchmaker from Bienne proposes a special “Beijing 2022” edition of its legendary diver which reproduces the colors of the Olympic flag on its dial.
Omega’s watchmaking catalogue contains a collection devoted to the Olympic Games which groups together all the pieces specially imagined for this major sports event and to celebrate the role of timekeeper which the firm from Bienne has assumed for almost 90 years now, since the Los Angeles Games back in 1932. Next year, the kick-off in Beijing will correspond to its 30th participation. For this eagerly-awaited event post global health crisis which severely rocked the sporting agenda, Omega developed a special dive watch, the Seamaster Diver 300M “Beijing 2022” Special Edition which will be available as of this April.
The 42 mm-diameter case, crafted in steel and flanked by a helium escape valve at 10 o’clock, is topped by a scalloped titanium bezel, characteristic of the Seamaster family. This large ring boasts a relief-detailed diving scale with sandblasted surface, a tracker indispensable for underwater exploration. On the blue ceramic dial etched with wave patterns, some indexes fly high the colors of the famous rings of the Olympic flag: red at 2 o’clock, green at 4, yellow at 8 (as the date fills the space at 6), blue at 10 and black at 12. The ensemble is hovered over by openworked sword-shaped hour and minute hands and a direct-drive.
This watch, stamped with the Beijing 2022 logo on the caseback, is driven by the Master Chronometer-certified Omega 8800 caliber which delivers a power reserve of 55 hours and is worn on a steel bracelet with steel folding clasp.
